West Grove, PA – January 17, 2007: Hugh Lofting Timber Framing, Inc. is proud to announce the establishment of an apprentice program that works hand-in-hand with La Comunidad Hispana’s Compañeros en Marcha (COMPA) Program. The apprenticeship program provides full time, on-the-job training in the timber framing shop and on location at raisings during the day. The COMPA program provides support for the apprentices and requires participation in after work continuing education courses at La Comunidad’s facility on State Street in Kennett Square, PA. The course work includes GED preparation and English as a Second Language.
The first apprentice to participate in the program is Noe Ortiz. To date Noe has participated in raising a house and a barn and has been working hands-on in the shop crafting a porch for a home in Maryland. “I have been really impressed with Noe’s enthusiasm for learning and his willingness to jump in and get involved”, says Dale Kretzing, Operations Manager.
“Through COMPA, we are striving to increase the earning potential of our local at-risk youth population,” says Logan Puck, Youth Coordinator at La Comunidad. “Our hope is to boost their self-esteem and give them the knowledge and tools to be self-sufficient. We at La Comunidad Hispana are very excited about our partnership with Hugh Lofting Timber Framing. The company provides a personal and intimate working environment that allows the youth to be members of a close-knit community and quickly learn a number of important skills.”
“I feel strongly that we should give back to the community that has supported us all of these years,” says Lofting. Located on Unionville Road, Hugh Lofting Timber Framing has been part of the Kennett Square business community since 1972.
